Focus Lock Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 25, 2025
Focus Lock is a Chrome extension that helps you block distracting websites for a fixed period of time. Your privacy matters. This policy explains what information the extension handles and how it is stored.
Summary
Focus Lock stores all data locally on your device. The extension does not collect, transmit, sell, or share your personal information with any server or third party.
Information stored locally
When you use Focus Lock, the following data is saved in your browser using
chrome.storage.local:
- Domain names you choose to block (for example,
netflix.com) - Block start and expiry timestamps
- An optional reason or note you enter when creating a block
- Internal identifiers used to manage blocking rules
This information stays on your computer and is used only to enforce blocks and show remaining time in the extension popup and blocked page.
What we do not collect
- No browsing history beyond the domains you explicitly block
- No account information — Focus Lock does not require sign-in
- No analytics, telemetry, or crash reporting
- No data sent to external servers
Permissions
Focus Lock requests Chrome permissions solely to provide blocking functionality:
- declarativeNetRequest — redirects navigation to blocked domains before pages load
- storage — saves your active blocks and expiry times on your device
- alarms — removes blocks automatically when their timer expires
- tabs — supports redirect behavior when a blocked site is opened
- Host access (<all_urls>) — required so blocking rules can apply to any website you choose to lock
Data retention and deletion
Block entries are removed automatically when their timer expires. You can also remove all extension data at any time by uninstalling Focus Lock or clearing the extension’s storage from Chrome’s extension settings.
Children’s privacy
Focus Lock is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone.
